Science Classroom Supervision
Rationale
The capacities and commitment of principals are vital to the quality of educational outcomes and most education system in the world requires high quality teacher and leaders working in schools. One of the main roles of school supervision system is to monitor the quality of education at schools through teachers. Monitoring activity is expected to produce a positive impact on their quality, such as, supervision forms as part of an overall quality monitoring and improvement system. Monitoring covers other instruments such as examination, achievement test, and self assessment practices done by school and teachers.
According to Sergovanni (1987) the objectives of supervisoin are: 1) conducted to assist teacher to develop their professional skills in understanding academic, class life, teaching skill and using their skill through certain techiques; 2) conducted to monitor the teaching and learning process at school. This can be accomplished by visiting classes during learning hour, talking personaly with teacher or colleages, or with some students; 3) conducted to support teacher apply his/her techniques in giving assigment and to seek self-development and commitment to his/her duty.
The quality of education at school level depend on the quality of learning process. The principal has a duty to carry out supervision in his school. The duty included in the principal’s capacity as an instructional leader. Essensitial supervison is a way to help teachers in developing their ability so that they are more professional.
By understanding administrative and education leader roles, school principals will be more responsible for efficient school management. The leadership role has function to ensure that successful learning can take place for all the pupils in the school. As the school leader, he/she needs to ensure every task is actually carried out on time and in proper manner. Furthermore, the school principal needs to supervise and to administer all the work in the school.
For this reason, the course on Science Classroom Supervision is relevant to those who lead schools, as it offers them competencies that can raise their capacity to become successful in achieving effective school management. This can prepare the students to become a part of their society. Therefore, the schools have to shape the scientific society as a modern charateristic. As we know, science subject contribute greatly in shaping the character. There is an international consensus that the purpose of teaching and learning science in the compulsory year of schooling is the development of scientific and literate citizens who have the knowledge and skills of science that enable them to function effectively in society, and help them to be interested in and understand the world around them.
Goals
Improving the competencies of principal in enhancing the quality of science educational personnel by implementing school based management to achieve an effective school management.

The learning objectives of this course programme are:
1. To comprehensively understand networking Partnership and Collaboration in improving Teachers and Education Personnel through Implementation of ICT
2. To comprehensively understand Quality Assurance Framework in Continuing Professional Development of Teachers and Education Personnel
3. To comprehensively understand and implement 21st century School Principal Competencies
4. To comprehensively understand and implement effective leadership in promoting effective school
5. To comprehensively understand science classroom supervision , develop and implement its instrument
6. To develop supervision school programme to achieve an effective school

1. QITEP in Science Policy on Quality Improvement of Science Teacher and Education Personnel in SEAMEO Countries
2. ICT for improving the quality of learning process and school management
Networking Partnership and Collaboration in improving Teachers and Education Personnel through Implementation of ICT in teaching and learning process
3. Education Quality Assurance System in School.
Quality Assurance Framework in Continuing Professional Development of Teachers and Education Personnel. Applied Nature of Academic Supervision and Education Quality Assurance, Academic Supervision support for Quality Assurance. Applying instrument developed and collecting data from class observation to be analyzed.
4. 21st century School Principal Competencies
Generic competencies and elaboration of each dimension, characteristic of 21st century principal, 21st century leadership.
5. Entrepreneurial Based Science Learning
Issues in science learning, nature of entrepreneurship, characteristic of entrepreneur, entrepreneurial skills development, entrepreneurial science learning; joyful learning
6. Effective School
Issues in effective school and leadership in participant country, roles of effective leadership in promoting effective school, characteristic of effective school
7. Science Classroom Supervision:
Best Practices of academic supervision in science learning ; Concepts, Issues, and Application: Nature of Academic Supervision; academic supervision approaches and methods; technique of supervision, aims and function of academic supervision, clinical supervision; application in science learning (science classroom supervision)

Development of science classroom supervision Instrument
Characteristic of Standardized Instrument and Academic Supervision Instrument for Science Learning; essentials knowledge, skills, and values of science; principles of supervision instrument development; Applying instrument developed and collecting data from class observation to be analyzed (School Visit )
9. Development of Supervision School Programme
Nature of Supervision School Programme; programme planning, programme implementation, programme evaluation; developing supervision school Programme as follow up action: implementation in school and share the results
10. Country Report & action plan
Education system; achievement and issues in academic supervision of science learning; current and innovative policy in academic supervision of science learning; best practise in academic supervision of science learning;

Appreciating Sundanese cultural art performance at Saung Angklung Mang Udjo

Culture exchange party among SEAMEO countries.

Date and Venue
The training course will be conducted on 8 - 14 May 2011. The venue of the programme is in Bandung.
Target Audience/Participant
The target participant will be 30 High School principal Junior and Senior Secondary Education from SEAMEO member Countries
Trainers
The training course will be supported by trainers and experts from some well known universities such as Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), Education University of Indonesia (UPI), Padjajaran Universities (UNPAD), and also trainers/instructor from Science Education Development and Empowerment Centre.
Requirements
A. Participant requirements:
1. Participant is a school principal
2. Active in school management and school organisation
3.
Should not be more than 52 years old
4.
Active in English communication (450 TOEFL or 5 for IELTS minimum score will be applicable, a certified copy of participant’s proficiency in English must be attached with the course application form).
5.
Never attended any training course conducted by SEAMEO QITEP in Science before.
6.
Has an ability to operate computer and internet
7.
Good condition of health(proven by doctor’s recommendation).
B. Course Requirements
Participant is required to bring:
1.
Curriculum documents from participant’s country
2.
Country report on school management
3.
Laptop with internet connection
C. Other requirements
All participants should also bring and submit these following requirements to the Centre:
1. Letter of official endorsement (letter of assignment) from their government/school;
2.
The form of official trip (the form and fulfilling guide are attached);
3.
Photo: 3 X 4 (2 ex).
D. Miscellaneous
- Bring traditional costume for cultural night;
- Bring the local souvenir for silent auction.
